Turkish Dessert with Yogurt, Honey and Fresh Fruit Recipe

A light dessert that often replaces heavy cakes after lunch in Turkish homes: thick yogurt, honey and seasonal fruit layered in a glass. It’s a bit like the Greek yogurt-and-honey dessert, but here the focus is more on fresh fruit and nuts. Perfect when you want something sweet but not too high in calories.

This dessert combines the simplicity of everyday Turkish home cooking with the freshness of seasonal fruit. Thick yogurt and honey create a creamy base, while nuts add crunch and extra flavor. It’s quick to make, looks impressive in a glass, and is much lighter than traditional cakes or pastries.

Chef's tips

Use the thickest, creamiest yogurt you can find—ideally strained or Greek-style—so the layers stay distinct and don’t run. Taste your fruit first and adjust the amount of honey depending on how sweet it is. Lightly toast the walnuts in a dry pan before chopping to bring out their aroma.

How to serve

Serve in transparent glasses so the colorful layers are visible. Just before serving, you can add a few extra fresh fruit pieces and a small mint leaf on top for a fresh look. This dessert works well as a light finish to a rich meal with meat or rice dishes.

Ingredients

  • yogurt - 500 g
  • honey - 4 tablespoons
  • strawberries - 150 g
  • grapes - 100 g
  • banana - 1 piece
  • walnuts - 40 g
  • cinnamon - 0.25 teaspoons
  • lemon zest - 0.5 teaspoons
Main Ingredient: yogurt

Preparation

  1. Wash the strawberries, remove the stems and cut them into halves or quarters. Wash the grapes and cut them in half. Peel the banana and slice it.
  2. Transfer the yogurt to a bowl, add half of the honey, the cinnamon and the grated lemon zest. Mix until everything is well combined.
  3. Prepare 4 glasses or dessert cups. Place a layer of fruit on the bottom of each, then add 2–3 tablespoons of yogurt.
  4. Sprinkle some of the chopped walnuts on top. Repeat the layers: fruit, yogurt, nuts, until you use up all the ingredients.
  5. Finally, drizzle the remaining honey over the top of the dessert. Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes in the fridge.

Storage

In fridge: 1 days
Freezing: No

Deser najlepiej smakuje świeży, bo owoce z czasem puszczają sok. Jeśli zostanie porcja, przechowuj ją w lodówce pod przykryciem i zjedz następnego dnia – jogurt będzie trochę rzadszy.
