Korean Roasted Potatoes with Garlic and Honey Recipe

A tray full of golden potatoes scented with garlic, honey, and soy sauce, with a light hint of sesame. The flavor is reminiscent of roasted potatoes with a honey glaze known from American cuisine, but with a distinct Asian twist.

Ingredients

  • potatoes - 800 g
  • garlic - 4 piece
  • honey - 2 tablespoon
  • soy sauce - 2 tablespoon
  • vegetable oil - 3 tablespoon
  • sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • sesame seeds - 1.5 tablespoon
  • chives - 2 tablespoon
  • black pepper - 0.25 teaspoon

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (top and bottom heat). Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Peel the potatoes (if they have thin skins, you can leave them on), rinse, and cut into cubes about 2 cm on each side.
  3. Peel the garlic and finely chop it or grate it.
  4. In a large bowl, mix the vegetable oil, sesame oil, soy sauce, honey, chopped garlic, and pepper. Stir until you get a smooth marinade.
  5. Add the chopped potatoes to the bowl and mix thoroughly with your hands or a spoon so that every piece is coated in the marinade.
  6. Transfer the potatoes to the baking tray in a single layer so the pieces do not overlap. This way they will bake evenly and become crispier.
  7. Bake the potatoes for 30–35 minutes, gently stirring them every 10 minutes or so, until they are soft inside and golden on the edges.
  8. After removing from the oven, sprinkle the potatoes with toasted sesame seeds and chopped chives. Serve hot or at room temperature.
