Spanish Orange Dessert with Honey and Walnuts Recipe

This simple orange-based dessert is reminiscent of the light sweets served after lunch in Spanish homes, when no one has room left for heavy cakes. Slices of juicy oranges with honey and crunchy walnuts are refreshing, yet still satisfy a craving for something sweet. It’s a bit like a Mediterranean version of fruit salad, only more elegant.

This dessert combines the simplicity of everyday Spanish home cooking with an elegant presentation. Juicy oranges, aromatic honey, and toasted walnuts create a refreshing yet satisfying sweet that feels both light and indulgent. It’s quick to prepare, requires no baking, and relies on just a few ingredients that really shine.

Chef's tips

Use the best oranges you can find—sweet, juicy, and preferably seedless, as they really make the difference here. Don’t skip toasting the walnuts; it deepens their flavor and adds a wonderful aroma. If your honey has crystallized, gently warm it in a water bath until it becomes liquid again, but don’t overheat it so it keeps its aroma.

How to serve

Serve on a large platter in the center of the table so everyone can help themselves, or plate individually for a more elegant feel. For a dinner party, you can drizzle a little extra honey on the plate and add a mint sprig for decoration. This dessert works well after heavier dishes, especially meat or stews, because it refreshes the palate.

Ingredients

  • oranges juicy, preferably seedless - 4 pieces
  • honey runny - 3 tablespoons
  • walnuts roughly chopped - 40 g
  • ground cinnamon - 0.5 teaspoons
  • fresh mint a few leaves for decoration, optional - 1 handful
  • lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Main Ingredient: orange

Preparation

  1. Lightly toast the walnuts in a dry pan over medium heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring, until they become fragrant. Set aside to cool.
  2. Peel the oranges very thoroughly, removing the white bitter pith as well. The easiest way is to do this with a knife, cutting the peel off from top to bottom.
  3. Slice the peeled oranges into slices about 0.5 cm thick and arrange them on a plate or serving platter, slightly overlapping.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the honey with the lemon juice and cinnamon until you get a smooth, pourable sauce.
  5. Drizzle the orange slices with the honey sauce, trying to coat each piece evenly.
  6. Sprinkle with the toasted walnuts and garnish with mint leaves. Serve immediately or after briefly chilling in the fridge.

Storage

In fridge: 1 days
Freezing: No

Deser najlepiej smakuje świeży, bo pomarańcze z czasem puszczają sok. Jeśli coś zostanie, przechowuj w lodówce w szczelnym pojemniku i zjedz następnego dnia, orzechy mogą być już mniej chrupiące.
